Library of Congress on Flickr

Many of you may already be familiar with Flickr, a popular photo sharing website. Much to our benefit, the Library of Congress has launched a project to easily share its photos with us. According to Matt Raymond:

"If all goes according to plan, the project will help address at least two major challenges: how to ensure better and better access to our collections, and how to ensure that we have the best possible information about those collections for the benefit of researchers and posterity. In many senses, we are looking to enhance our metadata (one of those Web 2.0 buzzwords that 90 percent of our readers could probably explain better than me).

The project is beginning somewhat modestly, but we hope to learn a lot from it. Out of some 14 million prints, photographs and other visual materials at the Library of Congress, more than 3,000 photos from two of our most popular collections are being made available on our new Flickr page, to include only images for which no copyright restrictions are known to exist."

So be sure to take a look - you'll be surprised at all the wonderful images available.

Library of Congress Classification Game

We know many of you have been attending our Bibliographic Instruction classes where we show you how to find books and other materials in Chesnutt Library. If the Library of Congress Classification system seems a little confusing play this game to practice your knowledge!

FSU Sponsors Chesnutt Symposium

Fayetteville State University (FSU) is hosting a symposium honoring Charles W. Chesnutt. The symposium includes the unveiling of the United States Postal Service's 41-cent stamp honoring the author. The stamp is part of the "Black Heritage Series."

The symposium is today, January 23, 2008 from 1 - 5 p.m. in the J.C. Jones Board Room of the Charles W. Chesnutt Library. The public is invited to attend.

First Day of Classes - January 9, 2007

Welcome back, Broncos!

We hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday break. Tomorrow is the first day of classes for the Spring 2008 semester. A couple of reminders:

The Library will return to regular hours starting January 9, 2008, first day of classes. If you're unsure what our regular hours are click here.

You will need a Bronco Card to access the computers on the first floor of the library and to check out any materials from Circulation. We no longer look you up by your Banner number. If you don't have your Bronco Card yet please visit the Bronco Card Office, Room 242 in the Rudolph Jones Student Center. Their hours are:

9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

9:00am - 7:00pm, Wednesday
