ALUKA PREVIEW

Added on February 5, 2007

JSTOR has partnered with its affiliate organization Aluka to offer a free preview of the Aluka website exclusively for institutions participating in JSTOR. Aluka is a not-for-profit collaboration of educational and cultural institutions with a mission to collectively build a high quality resource of materials for and about Africa. Aluka will be built through a network of participating institutions that both access and contribute to the collaborative resource, and will be aggregating important primary source materials that are typically not available for widespread use or are in disparate locations. Currently Aluka’s contributed materials are focused on three themes: African Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes, African Plants, and Struggles for Freedom in Southern Africa.

Starting February 5, 2007, participating JSTOR institutions will have access to Aluka’s African Plants content area. Access to content in African Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes and Struggles for Freedom in Southern Africa is expected to be made available incrementally starting in late March 2007. The preview period for JSTOR institutions will end on June 30, 2007. For more information about Aluka or to preview the resource, please go to www.aluka.org.

Features

  • Preview access to Aluka for current JSTOR participants from February 5 – June 30 2007.
  • The ability to search and browse images and documents from Aluka’s African Plants content area.
  • The ability to view images in detail and access associated metadata.
  • The ability to tag objects for organization and later quick retrieval.
