Chesnutt Library Fellows Information Literacy Program
Are you interested in including information literacy in your classes? Then you should become a Chesnutt Library Fellow! According to the Association of College & Research Libraries Information Literacy Standards & Guidelines:
“Developing lifelong learners is central to the mission of higher education institutions. By ensuring that individuals have the intellectual abilities of reasoning and critical thinking, and by helping them construct a framework for learning how to learn, colleges and universities provide the foundation for continued growth throughout their careers, as well as in their roles as informed citizens and members of communities. Information literacy is a key component of, and contributor to, lifelong learning.”
The Chesnutt Library Fellows Program consists of three faculty/librarian collaboration presentations/workshops scheduled for December 13th & 14th, 2010. The goal of these workshops is to integrate information literacy into the classroom. Through these workshops faculty and librarians can work together to create activities and exercises that will promote resource-based learning outside of the classroom, encourage use of library resources, and equip students with the skills they will need in higher education and beyond. These workshops will be facilitated by consultants and a $ 2,000 stipend will be provided to each participating faculty member. The first $ 1,000 will be provided at workshop conclusion and proof of attendance for both days. The second $ 1,000 will be presented after all required grant elements have been completed.

- December 13th AM Session includes: Chesnutt Library Fellows Second Cohort Presentations
- December 13th PM Session includes: ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards in Higher Education; Learning Styles; and Identifying Student Information Literacy Skills
- December 14th, AM Session includes: Teaching Research Skills Using Web 2.0 & Other Technologies; and Development & Design of Assessment Tools and Rubrics
- December 14th, PM Session includes: Plagiarism & Academic Dishonesty; and Plotting Information Literacy Strategies for the Next Semester
- Attend all workshops and present findings
- Attend four collaborative sessions with designated librarians
- Modify a course to include information literacy objectives
- Give a pre-assessment & a post-assessment
- Include an assignment in their syllabus that requires students to find, evaluate, and effectively use information literacy
