Meet Our Newest Staff Member:


Velappan Velappan (VV) joined the Chesnutt Library staff on September 02, 2008 as a Reference Librarian. He holds a B.Tech., in Textile Engineering from P.S.G. College of Technology, Bharathiar University, India. To continue his Engineering and professional interest of Information Science, he obtained his Masters Degrees in “Computer Information Systems” from Rivier College, Nashua, NH and “Library Information Science” from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT.

Velappan has previously worked as a Technical Services Librarian/Reference Librarian/Technical Systems Librarian/Access Services Supervisor at Daniel Webster College, Nashua, NH for 5 years. He also worked in Educational Resource Center as a Cataloging/Circulation Asst., at Rivier College in Nashua, NH for more than a year. Velappan served as a Textile Engineer in the Textile Manufacturing Industries in India for several years.

He's been married since 1994 to his wife Uma Ramanathan, who for the last 16 years has worked for different software companies and is currently working as a Senior Software Engineer at Fidelity Investments in RTP, Durham. He is living in Cary with his wife and their two beautiful daughters; Keerthana age 13 and Krithika age 7.

As a Reference Librarian, Velappan assists students, staffs, and faculties with all of their research needs including identifying resources, locating books, searching the library’s databases in person, by online, and by phone. In addition to that Velappan assists students for trouble shooting of hardware and software at the reference desk computers. And also Velappan assists technical services staffs with their troubleshooting of cataloging software and its future enhancements.
