The Big Read, April 20, 2010

Attention students, faculty and staff,

Don't forget to join us on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Chesnutt Library for The Big Read @ Fayetteville State University. The program will be held in the library’s third floor conference room. Light refreshments will be provided at the event.

This year’s book is The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. The book entails the life of John Singer, a deaf-mute in a Georgia mill town during the 1930s, and on his effect on the people who confide in him. When Singer's mute Greek companion of 10 years goes insane, Singer is left alone and isolated. He takes a room with the Kelly family, where he is visited by the town's misfits, who turn to him for understanding but have no knowledge of his inner life.

Several copies of the book are still available for checkout in the library, as well as, on course reserve. Audio guides and readers guides are also available under “Course Reserve”. Be sure to check one out, you still have time to read this work from a one-time Fayetteville resident before the program.
