Database of the Week: Wilson OmniFile Full Text Mega Edition

I apologize for the late post. This database review should have been posted last week, but I had some technical difficulties! However, without further ado, and probably with some editing to come, here's Ms. Whitfield's database of the week review for September 17-21:

Wilson OmniFile Full Text Mega Edition

Wilson OmniFile Full Text, Mega Edition provides electronic access to full text articles, page images, article abstracts, and citations from thousands of sources; full text of articles from over 1,750 publications and article abstracts and indexing from over 3,500 publications. Coverage goes back as early as 1982 in some cases. Users have access to information on all topics and disciplines. All the indexing and abstracting for all of the articles in journals covered by the following databases is included, and the full text of the articles that are available is also included in the OmniFile Full Text Mega edition. The following six Wilson databases comprise the Mega edition; Education Full Text; General Science Full Text; Humanities Full Text; Readers' Guide Full Text; Social Sciences Full Text; and Wilson Business Full Text.

In addition, Wilson OmniFile Full Text, Mega Edition presents complete indexing, abstracting, and full text from all of the journals in the five databases below to which Wilson has full text rights. Indexing and abstracting is present for all articles from those journals without regard to whether or not we have the full text for that particular article. The five databases are: Applied Science & Technology Full Text; Art Full Text; Biological & Agricultural Index Plus; Index to Legal Periodicals Full Text; and Library Literature & Information Science Full Text.

Highlights of this database are that it is an excellent and comprehensive starting point for a search on any topic. In addition to searching in the following fields; keyword, subject(s), author personal, author corporate, journal name and source, one can also search unique fields for books reviewed, court cases, SIC code, NAICS code, and children’s literature to name a few. Searches can also be limited to; Full Text Articles, Page Image (PDF); and Peer Reviewed. See example below:

Document types allow one to search over forty-five types of documents, from art reproduction to autobiography, from corporate profile to film review, from obituary to radio program review and from short story to speech and video recording review. See example below:

When a record is selected for viewing, the subjects of the article display at the top f the screen. If there is no full text present, clicking on the Wilson Link brings up other databases in which full text may be present for the article. See Example below:

Anytime the persistent URL is clicked on, it copies the URL and the bibliographic citation to the clipboard, so that one can create a bibliography from the information. There is also a link so that the user can find out how to cite the information. See example below:
